The Olympics

The first stop on our Olympic journey was Marseille. The city itself was nice, but the heat drove us to the ocean. After a short city bus ride, we found ourselves at a beach on the Mediterranean located next to the sailing events. The kids splashed happily and the olympic women's race sailed past us at high speeds. It was a great morning.

Then our first ticketed event, men's football. France vs New Zealand, at Marseille stadium. It was a very excited crowd and in the end, the home team took it.

The second stop on our Olympic quest was Nice to watch the Canadian women vs Columbia. It was a close match, but Canada pulled out the win they needed to advance. It was a very tense game indeed.

As we headed back to Paris, I had two non-sport goals. 1. to see the Olympic rings on the Eiffel Tower 

and 2. to see the cauldron

both sightings were from far away, but I will still call it a win. Zoe might say, can you please get me out of this f***ing fairytale as it was pretty hot with a lot of walking to accomplish these goals.

The third event, and probably the kid's least favourite was Athletics. It was a nice cool morning and we watched the women's hammer throw (we got to see gold medalist Camryn Rogers, from Canada, throw in her preliminary round), steeple chase, long jump and hurdles and 200m. All qualifying events so not the most exciting, but still a good experience.

And finally, our most exciting event by far. Beach volleyball at the Eiffel Tower Stadium. It was a beautiful setting on a beautiful night. Women's Brazil vs Japan. So we had a taste of what the Canadian women were going to be up against. And men's Qatar vs Chile. The energy in the stadium was electric and our seats were amazing!
