Updated statistics of our trip so far - Africa

Update Of Our Stats So Far

Time for another update. It has been a while since posting as we have been busy! We have been out of Canada for 198 days. Since leaving Turkey, we have been to Uzbekistan to explore the silk road. Nepal to trek to Annapurna base camp. One night in Delhi, India. Mauritius, where the kids got their scuba diving tickets. South Africa for one night to transfer to Zimbabwe for the start of the safari. Botswana where we were on the most amazing 10 day safari. Namibia for a 18 day camping trip that tested our limits (and we only lasted 14 days). And finally Egypt after 1 week at a resort on the Red Sea and then sight seeing at many of the ancient sights.

According to our wayward app, we are at approximately 60,000km since leaving home. By foot, train, plane bus, car, boat horse, rickshaw, no camels. As a reference, the earth's circumference is about 40,000km. And to note, we are working with Wayward to try to get our map back up and running on our website. In the meantime, I'll post a screen shot.

We have been to 21 countries so far: France, Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Vatican City, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Nepal, India, Mauritius, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia and Egypt. On our way to number 22, Sri Lanka.

We have used 14 different currencies. Good thing we have Thomas along to math for us.

We have now been on a total of 26 planes by the time we land in Colombo. We loved our Emirates flights with the shiny new airplanes and great service (even in the last row in economy). But they're only the third best airlines in the world, so we had to try out Qatar to Colombo, as it's apparently the best. In our opinion Emirates slightly nudged out Qatar.

We've been on 3 live aboard boats: 1 week in France, 1 week in Turkey and 3 nights on the Nile.

We trekked about 85km in Nepal over 10 days. Starting at 1950m and reaching an elevation of 4130m.

We've only added two museums to our count (one being the new largest in the world), but the kids have tried to keep their ice cream consumption up.

We've broken 4 iPhone cables (but no C-cables!?) and lost 2 watch cables and 2 headphones. We've had one cell phone break on us.

We've had one hospital visit for a deep cut on Thomas's finger that fortunately only needed to glue to repair in Namibia.

We saw all of the big five, all of the ugly five, some of the big little five, and we made a new category called the derpy five. See the Botswana post for more details.

Thomas has been on 8 dives. He gets to go twice as often as Travis and I, as we take turns. His new favourite sport.

Travis has now mastered driving on the left, including stick shift.
