Did you know that there are over 100 different varieties of koi based on color, pattern, and scale types.  





Common koi colors include white, black, red, yellow, blue, and cream, many of them having a combination of some or all the colours. I can't believe that baby carp also known as fry usually start out a bland colour and develop there patterns as they grow. Some koi varieties are scaleless, known as Doitsu koi, which were originally bred from German mirror carp. 



You might think these fish look a lot like koi and you would be right. Koi is a special type of carp and most often people think all carp are koi.


Koi are often featured in Japanese art because they represent courage, individuality, and aspiration.
